For some woman it is hard to ask anybody about their vaginas even
their best friends and also if you are heterosexual and have never been with another woman you don’t actually really know what they look like up close and personal (watching porn doesn’t count) and this can lead us to wonder if our vaginas are what they are supposed to look like or even smell right. So what are we supposed to do?!
We have a couple of questions that have come our way that we can assist with.
Sometimes it hurts when I have sex with my partner…
This can be for a number of different reasons the first being that you are not lubricated enough. Women usually are self-lubricating, when we are aroused we become ‘wet’, but unfortunately this doesn’t always happen. It may be that you are not aroused enough when penetration has started or that some women don’t or can’t lubricate enough and need a little extra help.
Using a lubricant can assist with making it a more pleasurable
experience and there are so many variations available to select from. Natural, water based, silicone, warming, tingling, flavoured the list really does go on. But this is a good thing as variety is the spice of life. We recommend trying a couple of different lubes until you find the right one for you and if you have had issues with painful sex and this is eliminated by using lube you will be wondering why you didn’t try this ages ago.
If the pain continues it is best to seek medical advice just in case.
Sometimes my vagina farts during sex…
Have you heard of queefing? Unless you are into South Park or you really know your urban language not to many of us have heard of queefing but that is what vagina farts are now called.
The cause of queefing is when too much air builds up during penetrative sex and when he or a toy exists your vagina the air exhales causing the fart. This is normal and nothing to worry yourself about, if anything you should have a little laugh about it when you do it.
Sometimes I have a small amount of white discharge …
Having a white discharge on its own doesn’t need to be a cause for concern as women have a certain amount of discharge that’s normal because of our hormones and the changes in our cycle. If there is a small or odour this may need professional assistance. It may be a simple bacterial infection but at the worst side of things it could be a STI. Best to see you doctor for medical advice.
One of my labia lips hangs a little lower than the other…
This is totally normal as most women are asymmetrical and have one lower than the other. Just like mens scrotums, they are not exactly even either. Unless this really bothers you, you shouldn’t worry about it but if it is a real cause of anxiety to you there is a procedure called a labiaplasty, but this is only for cosmetic reasons that most women choice to go for this option.
Most women shave their pubic area but is this the right thing to do as I get little pimples there sometimes because I do shave…
The little pimples you are seeing are actually tiny infections caused by using a shaver on such a delicate part of your body. Instead of shaving try waxing or laser hair removal instead.
Occasionally my vagina will itch just before I get my period…
Lucky us, we have hormones to thank for this as with the changes in our bodies at this time can cause lower oestrogen levels which can lead to thinning of the vaginal skin. This can make your vagina drier than usual which in turns can lead to irritation and potentially make you itchy. Of course if this continues after your menstruation cycle you may need to pop in to see your doctor.
