There is definitely good news and bad news in this area.
And the easy answer is yes and no, depending on your goals.
Even though 85% of women report being happy with their partner’s penis size, according to the British Journal of Urology, the fascination among men with the size of their manhood seems unfounded.
But for whatever reason most men would like a bigger penis.
It can be difficult to find reliable medical or scientific evidence to back up the many claims made by manufacturers. Other claims and supposed research are dubious at best. The unscrupulous element seems to cast doubt on the question of whether penis enlargement of any kind works.
Some research also suggests that men who use penis enlargement products may feel more confident about their size even if the treatment hasn’t actually made a significant difference.
There’s a lot of information out there about penis extenders, and more accurately a lot of misinformation and false claims.
The sensitive nature and sometimes unscrupulous behaviour of some have no doubt made research in the area less attractive to the medical profession and scientific community. Often claims are not backed up by independent testing or result from subjective studies or those with small sample sizes. There are also plenty of conflicting studies out there.
While most men would prefer a larger penis, for some it is a source of great anxiety and can inhibit them in their daily lives and undermines their ability to have sex. The feeling that you do not have an adequate penis size can make you feel less confident talking to women, and whether true or not, can have a negative affect during sexual encounters.
Some have blamed the effect of pornography on men for the widespread fixation with the size of their manhood, and let’s face it the average male porn star is rare specimen indeed. But, the issue certainly isn’t a recent phenomenon. The Arabic process of jelqing has been used for centuries to improve penis size and involves repeatedly ‘milking’ a flaccid penis from the base to the head in order to stretch tissue to create enlarged cavernous tissue once erect.
But thankfully there is some good research into the area notably a combined review of 10 previous studies into surgical and non-surgical penis enhancement which was conducted by Marco Ordera and Paolo Gontero from the University of Turin, Italy.
The research collated research involving 121 men who received surgical enhancement procedures and 109 men who used nonsurgical enhancement techniques.
Their results concluded that some nonsurgical techniques can increase the length of a man’s organ, with improvements of between 1.8cm and 2.3cm when flaccid. One study used a traction device worn up to 6 hours a day, the other used a jelqing technique conducted daily for 6 months.
So that’s the good news. You may be able to make your penis longer with a traction-like technique like jelqing or a traction device like the Andro-Penis, which has had some medical research done to back up the manufacturer’s claims.
The bad news is that there is no quick and easy way to increase penis size that has any credible research to back it up. Gains take months, are relatively small and require a small amount of dedication over months, not days or weeks.
The researchers from the University of Turin noted that outcomes from surgical produced an ‘unacceptably high’ rate of complications. For completeness I should discuss this with a specialist cosmetic surgeon, but for the purposes of this article I am really only interested in non-surgical penis augmentation.
Both manufacturers of penis pumps and traction devices claim they can enlarge your penis, however if your goal from your penis enlarger is to overcome erection problems then the use of a penis pump with a penis ring (cock ring) will provide a solution.
In addition, manufacturers of penis pumps and traction devices suggest that they can correct Peyronie’s Disease (curvature of the penis). Pronounced curvature can be embarrassing, painful and can restrict sexual activity.
Using a pressurised pump and then a cock ring to maintain the erection by trapping blood in the penis can enable an enjoyable sexual experience, so important in any relationship. But cease use if you experience any discomfort.
In summary, while much of the information surrounding penis enlargement is either overblown or anecdotal, there is research which suggests that with some commitment and perhaps a traction or pressure device to help, you can increase the size of your penis.
The gains are not instant and are not enormous. Avoid products which make these claims. No long term scientific results appear to have been conducted, but there is a large volume of anecdotal results on ‘penis gym’ sites.
If you have trouble maintaining an erection a pump and cock rings should be able to help, while we have received very positive feedback, results can vary depending on your condition.
If you suffer from curvature of the penis the use of traction devices can correct curvature by up to 70%.
