Do sex enhancers really work?

horny-goat-weedTo answer this question firstly we must understand what Sex Enhancers (aphrodisiacs) are? Studies show that sex enhancers are designed to increase libido and enhance sexual performance. Depending on the actual ingredients will depend on the overall performance of the aphrodisiacs and the effects associated with them.

Many of the herbs found in common sex enhancers have been used to aid sexual arousal and to raise libido for centuries. The male body produces testosterone which is the main hormone responsible for libido. Testosterone is also responsible for other male characteristics eg: deep voice, increased muscle size, aggression and baldness among others.

Manufacturers of common sex stimulants use all natural herbal remedies, long known for their effects in increasing testosterone levels. The difference being if you were to take testosterone directly you would be basically using steroids.

The most commonly used herbs as aphrodisiacs are Horny Goat Weed; Ashwaganda; Passionflower and Yohimbe Bark.

Horny Goat Weed has positive effects on testosterone and also increases blood circulation and lowers blood pressure. Over-use of horny goat weed can increase levels of aggression and irritability.

Ashwaganda, or Indian ginseng has been used as a calming remedy for centuries. Ashwaganda focuses on the nerve centre of the brain and helps reduce chronic stress and exertion. Also used by athletes for faster recovery speeds you can assume that Ashwaganda is also beneficial for recovery after sexual exertion.

Native American Indians have been using Passionflower with wonderful effects for thousands of years. Passionflower lowers estrogen levels though still maintains testosterone levels. A natural remedy for stress relief, Passionflower decreases anxiety, one of the main causes of male libido problems.

Found on the inner lining of an African tree, Yohimbe bark has been used for hundreds of years by native people to increase sexual desire and performance. Apart from raising testosterone levels, Yohimbe bark increases blood circulation to smooth muscles. In effect Yohimbe bark will create longer lasting erections.

Unfortunately Yohimbe bark is a central nervous system stimulant. Even taking small doses can leave the user on edge and nervous. Uses have also been known to have increased body temperatures and sweaty palms. If you are not prepared for these side effects after sex then avoid using Yohimbe. Yohimbe bark can also be deadly if used in high dosages, and should be used with extreme caution, or not at all.

In summary: Do Sex Enhancers really work? Yes! You could go out and purchase these actual herbs themselves and start experimenting, though at least with common sex enhancers the guess work has been done and you can just enjoy the experience.
