Let’s start of with what pelvic floor muscles do. Pelvic floor muscles supports a woman’s bladder, uterus and bowel. Your pelvic floor muscles help you to control your bladder and bowel. They also assist in sexual function and enjoyment.

The pelvic floor has layers of muscles which require exercise just like any other muscle. If we don’t exercise them they will become weak. Unfortunately they also may become weak when pregnant and having children. Other reasons for weak pelvic floor muscles is being overweight, illness with coughing and of course not keeping them active and healthy.

Let’s think about your muscles and put them in your mindset. I suggest sitting down and squeeze and draw in the muscles, hold for a bit and let go. If you haven’t exercised previously you may not be able to hold onto the clenched muscles for long but don’t worry with practice you will.

A pretty simple and known way to practice using your muscles is when you go to the toilet. When you start to pee stop mid-stream and then start again by using your muscles. Doesn’t sound too hard does it and it’s a good place to start practising.

I was talking about your mindset and this is quite important as once you have done this the exercising will come very naturally to you.

Another quick, easy and simple way to remember to exercise is think about a particular time of day that you do something repetitively. Now at that time do some clenching and squeezing of your muscles.

Of course there are other alternatives to this as well with adult toys. Pelvic floor/Kegel exercise devices that can assist you with remembering to do them as well as making your exercise regime a little more fun.
