I, as you are aware am not a prude of any kind but I just didn’t like the thought of being a marked women.

Hickeys, love Bites or “what the hell is wrong with your neck” or whatever you want to call them, are still out there. They are usually amongst the younger generation and until I meet up with a girlfriend recently and she was covered in them, I hadn’t thought about them for years.

For those who don’t know what a Hickey is it is known as a love bite which is commonly given during a make out session. For some people it is like marking their territory and for others it is a symbol of the love the other has given them. As I said, it is more widely used in the younger generation.

So how do hickeys play with your health? Let’s first think on how they are made, one person sucks on the other person’s body part usually neck or chest until a mark is left.

This mark is left on the skin for a couple of weeks and even longer depending on how hard they sucked. The colour will start to go down slowly but you will still have that “hickey” look.

Love Bites are not really the right terminology to call these as they are anything but as they cause injury to your body. Your blood vessel is essentially popped because of the pressure on the skin which causes the bruises to come out.

What can you do if you receive a hickey and want to get rid of it as quick as possible. The first thing to do is try not to get them as there really isn’t any quick solution to getting rid of them. But if you really enjoy giving or getting them here are a couple of things you should know.

You can try and put ice on the area straight away to ease the swelling and this may help in achieving a lessor colour and not the deep bruise colour that you would usually receive.

If you have an iron deficiency you can bruise a lot easier than most other people because the blood particles break up really easily and leave a lot more swelling.

Always be careful on how hard you go, as they can give you scars which will never go away.

There has been a method known to get rid of them quicker but it depends on a few factors. First if you have an iron deficiency and bruise easier or if they are some hard core hickeys it just won’t work.

You may laugh and think it kind of stupid but I have personally seen it work on many of my friends. It is white toothpaste, yeap you heard me right. White toothpaste, wipe the toothpaste all over the area and leave it there. The longer the better, if needed re-apply and the mark will become less a lot quicker. Now, as stated this will not work for everyone, but I have been amazed at the results that white toothpaste can provide to get rid of those hickeys.

Although I have found something similar below regarding toothpaste ( I never thought it was well known) they state to use mint toothpaste, but in my test results white was better. You can use both and see how you go.

Attached is also a couple of other suggestions to help the extent of the injury.

But really the best way to get rid of them is not have them. It all comes down to if you want to run the risk of any health concerns like scaring in the future if you continue to participate in hickeys. There are a lot of other ways you can show your lover how much you mean to them.

In the end, it is up to you. It is your body and you can do whatever you want to with your own body.

Have fun and stay safe!

It’s funny, I haven’t thought about Hickeys for a very long time, not that I ever received or was given one.
