World Health Day 2017

World Health Day

In today’s society we have so much information that is easily
accessible to anyone with a computer, phone or table that it may be surprising that we need an international day to remind us to look after our own health. I believe that it’s a great idea as it’s a very important message and a reminder to everybody to look at how they are dealing with their everyday lifestyle and how it may affect their health.

We all live such busy lives and it seems that the time really does get away from us all. Can you believe that we are already in April, the 4th month of the year? So it’s really not that surprising that our busy lives can take a hold of us quickly and hinder some of our good wishes of staying healthy that we may have made for a New Year Resolution or simply we just want to be happy and healthy.

We all need to look at doing something pro-active about our health from the usual exercise and selecting the right foods to eat, looking after our sexual health inside and out and to taking away any of the bad habits we may have for example smoking, drinking too much alcohol and of course the big one drugs.

Exercise and Diet

To be honest, I will be one of the first people to put their hand up to say “I don’t exercise enough”. I can provide so many different excuses that it’s not funny. The main reason is that I hate exercise and I’m lazy when it comes to it. I don’t want to wake up early and go to the gym, I much rather stay in my comfortable bed with my lover. Then after work I want to spend quality time with friends and family like most people.

I knew in myself that this had to change and I’m happy to say that in the last few weeks I have become more pro-active myself and there is no shame in asking for help. I actually went to see my GP and was brutally honest with my hesitation of exercise and what I wish my health goals were. I have since gone to an exercise physiologist and dietician to assist me with becoming the better me.

Let me start by saying I didn’t even know that there was such a profession as an exercise physiologist, but after my sessions with them I understand what they do and how they change people’s mindsets about exercise, which is what I really needed.

Obviously, I knew of dieticians and I didn’t really think that I needed to see one as I believed that I was eating healthy. After seeing them it came to light that I do eat healthy but I wasn’t eating enough as I was skipping meals due to my busy work and lifestyle, and this was not being beneficial to my health at all and it seems to be the reason that I would feel lethargic at times.

I don’t want to really call it an exercise schedule I would much rather call it a change of lifestyle and so far so good, just doing things a little different has made such a difference. For example we have all heard this one before but taking the stairs instead of the lift. I have changed this up to suit my circumstances and every time I need to go downstairs from my office I go up and down the stairs 3 – 5 times each time, this is only adding a minute to the task at hand but it’s working and I am really feeling it in my bum and legs which of course is a good thing.

I have started to eat more but I am struggling to snack (healthy of course) as I am full from eating more in general. It takes time to get that perfect energy level up so this is a work in progress but I’m feeling better already.

If I can do it, really anybody can. Just start slow and work your way up, it does get better take it from someone who hates exercise.

Sexual Health

A state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality.

When it comes to sexual health there are so many variables to consider that unfortunately we cannot provide all the information for everybody in this blog but will try and assist with all we can, but remember there is no shame in asking for help from a friend, doctor or even ask us.

Physical sexual health is about your body and all your good bits, oh how we all love our good bits but do we really understand them and look after them to the full extent that we should. It doesn’t matter if you are in a sexual relationship or not your sex parts need to be cared for.

This can start by the task that we all do a couple of times a day and that is bathing. We need to make sure that our boy or girl parts are not left behind with our cleaning regime. Once we feel clean and lovely we are more likely to want to get physical with our lover or with ourselves and masturbate. Both of which is extremely important to your overall health.

Sex can take away any worries and stresses that you may have, and again this includes masturbation we cannot leave that out as I would say that 90% of us masturbate and the rest of us lie and say that they don’t.

Masturbation is one of the healthiest forms of sex that is available. It is just you and your toy or toys of choice. There is no chance of an STI, telling you that they are not in the mood or rolling over and going to sleep once they are done.

If you have read any of my blogs previously it goes without saying
that I love toys and consider them one of the best things in my life. I’m an expert on adult toys and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Remember if you want to know anything about a toy contact us and we are here to help.

If you are not in a relationship and having sex with different people the best sexual health message I can give you is make sure that a condom is worn always. No condom, no sex. With so many STI’s there really is no excuse as to why you wouldn’t want to look after your health by not making sure that a condom is always worn.

A common complaint with condoms and I have found it more with men than women is that it doesn’t feel the same and it’s not natural. Whilst not being a male I cannot give my opinion on how they feel but I would like to call bullshit. Condoms have evolved over the years from the 19th century of chemically treated linen and animal tissues like intestines or bladders to the technologically advanced condoms we have available today. They have come so far that to me it is almost like there is nothing there between me and my lover.

I do recommend using a water based lubricant when using condoms as there is less likelihood of breakages and it also makes it far more enjoyable. I must say even lubricants have come a long way with so many different styles, ingredients and even flavours for us to choose

from. They have made it a lot more fun to use than the dreary plain lubes that used to be on the market.

This can also come down to your sexual mental health which is your mental well-being and making sure that you are feeling happy, confident and don’t have any stresses or concerns over any sexual matters. That you are not feeling that you are being forced into a situation that you are not comfortable with and this includes the above about making sure a condom is used.

Depression is a very common mental health issue and you would be surprised how many people are affected with some form of depression throughout their lives. It is ever increasing and I believe that this has to do with the fact that we all put a lot more pressure on ourselves than necessary from work, home and relationships and the effects of negative social media.

We all have to be aware that it exists and that none of us are immune to it, be it a mild case or a more severe situation. We also should have understanding to anyone that is going through depression and be more accepting. Be that shoulder for them to cry on or if it’s you know that you are not alone and that there is always help at hand. If you have any major concerns about your health always seek professional medical assistance.

Once your physical and mental health is on par to the rest of your body you will find that you will enjoy life so much more. If you are feeling good about yourself, your lifestyle choices including your sex life and personal and professional life, you will notice more bounce in your step than you did previously.

Let’s open our minds more than we previously have about our health. It’s not just one or two parts of our bodies it is all of it. Top to toe, inside and outside let’s put our arms around ourselves and make ourselves the healthiest and happiest we can. Another bonus is that the people around you may also feel the difference from your mindset and with luck they too will feel like doing the same.
